Chiranjivi The Immortals

Hello and welcome to my site! My name is Dallas and I am a senior at the University of Oklahoma. Before getting into the meat of the stories I wanted to inform you about what to expect from what you are about to read, as well as fill you in on a little bit about these immortal beings.

The Chiranjivi are seven immortal beings in Hinduism. The names for them are Vyasa, Hanuman, Parashurama, Vihishana, Ashwatthama, Bali and Kripa. As you can see that there are several to pick from, but I chose Parashurama, Ashwatthama, and Jambavan. I chose these three because I felt their stories were most interesting since each of them were mighty warriors. In their stories they seemed so powerful that they were almost larger than life. I was drawn to them for their weapons as well as the battles and fights they got into. The first one I chose was Parashurama. Parashurama was the sixth of the ten avatars of Vishnu. The reason that Vishnu incarnates himself in Parashurama is sent to aveng the brahmins by killing the kshatriyas. He had many mighty weapons such as Bhargavas which is an axe. Ashwatthama was also an avatar, but an avatar of Shiva. Ashwatthama is also one of the most powerful warriors in the Mahabharata. He was born with a gem inside his forehead that makes him all powerful and makes it to where he never hungers, thirsts or fatigues. Ashwatthama uses his mighty weapon called Narayanastra to defeat his enemies. He fought in a war against the Pandavas alongside the Kauravas. Finally, there is Jambavan is the King of Bears and was created by Brahma to assist Rama in his fight against Ravana. He played many roles in the rescue of Sita from Ravana, as well as in the battle itself. He advised Sugriva to send Hanuman to identify Rama and Lakshmana. He would go on to encourage Hanuman that he was able to fly over the ocean so that he could find Sita. During the fight with Ravana he dealt strong blows to Ravana the demon king. He was so powerful he stood toe to toe against Krishna in a battle of blows. It is said that Jambavan was born before the universe was even created and it is said he has the strength of ten million lions! All three of these Chiranjivi have many similarities. Each of them are warriors that fought against powerful forces and prevailed. I believe you will enjoy the following three stories about these mighty men. The first two stories will be about the tragic murder of both Parashurama and Ashwatthama fathers and what happens next. The final story will be about Jambavan and the battle he had with Krishna. The first story is about Parashurama's mission to get revenge on those who stole his fathers life.
